The United states Embassy in Kenya, will be closed tomorrow, January 9, for the National Day of Mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.
“In observance of the National Day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, the U.S. Embassy will be closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025,” a statement by the Embassy on Wednesday read.
Former US President Jimmy Carter died on December 29, 2024, in Plains, Georgia, with his family beside him.
Carter served as the 39th president from 1977 until 1981. He was aged 100, making him the longest-lived president in US history..
Last year it was announced that he would receive hospice care at home, after struggling with health issues, including a melanoma that spread to his liver and brain.
His son, Chip Carter, says: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.
“My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
