On Sunday, February 2, a fundraiser was held at Moi’s Bridge Township for victims of a tragic fire that razed down property worth millions on Saturday, January 1.
In attendance was Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok. The fundraiser started off smoothly, however, the situation changed when Soy MP David Kiplagat arrived.
videos circulating online depicted a scuffle when Kiplagat was introduced. Goons stormed the podium in a bid to disrupt the event.
The situation deteriorated further when tens of residents also stormed the podium where political leaders were addressing them, as the confrontation threatened to turn ugly.
Police officers present at the event were forced to step in, but were overwhelmed briefly overwhelmed by the huge number of residents engaging in physical altercations at the venue.
Sudi who was angered by the situation fired a warning to an unnamed element regarding using youth to further divisive politics.
Sudi stated, “I’m shocked. Instead of giving money to help the youth start businesses, we’re giving them money to fight and disrupt events. Let’s stop this politics of the old. We agreed as leaders of Uasin Gishu County that we would help all residents when there is the need.”
