Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has announced the promotion of more than 1,000 county workers
She was Speaking on Friday, February 15, where she launched the County Public Service Policy,that outlines guidelines for staff welfare and career progression.
The governor ordered the immediate promotion of 86 staff members who are set to retire in 2025 while revealing that she’s working on promoting more than 916 workers whose promotions had been delayed for the past nine years.
She highlighted that her administration developed the county human resource policy document to address numerous challenges facing working and introduce sanity and fairness in the management of the county workforce.
“We have others who are about to retire but have stagnated in the same job group, is that fair? I have heard the cries of employees who have gone up to ten years without promotion,” Wavinya noted.
“All 86 staff that will be retiring in 2025 will be promoted with immediate effect, while some 916 employees whose promotions had been delayed for seven years or more will be promoted effective July 1st, 2025,” she added.
Notably, Governor Wavinya announced the introduction of an annual staff award scheme to recognise and reward hard-working staff.
The governor tasked the Performance Advisory Committee and the Department of Public Service to oversee the scheme.
“I also announce the introduction of the annual staff award scheme, which will identify, recognise, and award outstanding performing staff in every department,” the governor revealed.
Further, the governor revealed plans to employ Early Childhood Development and Education Program (ECDE) teachers permanently.
