The Investment, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has appointed Chrisantus Wamalwa as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Standards Council (NSC).
According to a gazette Notice released on ebruary 21, Wamalwa will hold the office for three years, effective immediately.
“Wakhungu Chrisantus Wamalwa (Dr) to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Standards Council for three(3) years, with effect from the 21st February 2025,” the notice stated.
NEC is the policy-making body that oversees the administration and financial management of the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
The council sets the standards and guidelines for quality control and conformity assessment within the country; it is responsible for supervising the development and implementation of standards across various industries in Kenya.
Wakhungu Wamalwa served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kiminini Constituency in Trans-Nzoia County.
He was first elected a Kiminini MP in the 2013 general elections and then re-elected in the general elections of 2017 as a member of the Ford Kenya party.
Wamalwa’s appointment comes two months after President William Ruto made new appointments at the Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS), and the Public Procurement Regulatory Board
The President in a notice in December 2024, appointed the former Presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth as the Chairperson Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) National Standards Council.
