Two people have been confirmed dead, while 10 others are receiving treatment after sustaining critical injuries in an alleged banditry attack.
Reportedly, a group of bandits from Samburu North attacked a bus ferrying passengers from Maralal to Baragoi on Thursday, February 27.
The injured received first aid before being rushed to Samburu County Referral Hospital, where they are currently recuperating
A victim who spoke to the press moments after the incident, revealed that the assailants began shooting at the bus from a distance, forcing the driver to stop. They then entered the bus and started threatening passengers.
“They let the first bus pass before attacking us. We have been threatened for the longest time. I recorded the clips using my phone,” claimed a victim.
Confirming the incident were local leaders from Samburu who accused the government of failing to curb the rising insecurity in the region.
This happens months after a similar attack in September last year where a group of armed assailants reportedly targeted a Nairobi-bound bus.
Terrorists believed to be from the Shifta faction reportedly attacked a 60-seater bus along the Moyale-Isiolo stretch and began spraying bullets, killing one passenger on the spot.
The attack left six passengers critically injured, but they were rushed to the Sololo Mission hospital. However, another passenger succumbed while being rushed to the health facility.
