A form Three student from Elburgon DEB Secondary School was reportedly shot dead by police near Elburgon Police Station during protests that erupted on Friday.
Residents had taken to the streets to demonstrate over the mysterious death of a well-known mechanic, Godfrey Ngugi, also referred to as FB, whose body was discovered days after he was reported missing on 9th March.
Protesters claim that the student’s body remained by the roadside for hours before law enforcement officers eventually removed it and transferred it to Molo Sub-County Mortuary.
The standoff, which lasted for more than two hours, saw enraged residents hurl stones and attempt to storm the police station, which they accused of being at the centre of the controversy.
To disperse the demonstrators, officers reportedly fired live ammunition into the air and released tear gas, with one bullet striking and killing the student.
