Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has broken silence on the unfortunate incident that saw MP Salasya Beaten up during the Kenya- Gabon Match, terming it as unfortunate.
Mudavadi outlined the importance of respect in Kenyan democracy, underscoring that a house divided can not stand.
He stated,” What happened to Hon. Peter Salasya at Nyayo Stadium today is unfortunate. Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of our democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views. We won’t always agree, and that’s okay. But respect, dialogue, and unity must remain non-negotiable. Respect must be given, but it must also be earned,”
“Fellow Kenyans, no one else will build this nation for us. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build. A house divided cannot stand. Let’s choose reason over chaos, and maturity over noise. Kenya’s future depends on it,”he added.
Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya who had joined thousands of fans to watch the highly anticipated match, found himself at the centre of a violent altercation.
Videos circulating online show one of the attackers striking the MP with a trash bin as his security team attempted to shield him from further harm.
As the chaos ensued, some spectators were heard shouting at the youthful legislator, demanding that he show respect for President William Ruto.
“Heshimu rais,” they chanted.
The situation quickly escalated, forcing the legislator’s security team to escort him out of the stadium. Footage captured Salasya who was donning AFC Leorpards’s jersey rushing towards his car, surrounded by bodyguards who worked to ensure his safety.
