President William Ruto has hit at former Attorney General Justin Muturi, who is currently the Public Service Cabinet Secretary, describing him as incompetent.
He was Speaking on Tuesday evening during an Iftar session with the Muslim community at State House in Nairobi where he stated that Muturi was unskilled in handling legal matters.
Head of State criticised Muturi for allegedly delaying the establishment of a Waqf, a charitable endowment in which a Muslim dedicates property for religious, charitable, or public benefit.
Addressing the congregation, the president assured the Muslim community that under the current Attorney General, Dorcas Oduor, the government would establish the commission.
“As we move forward, we will continue to look at the issues that have been raised here—issues of education—and find a nexus between religious and formal education to determine what needs to be done,” Ruto said.
“On Waqf, I agree with you; it has taken too long. There is no reason for the delay, and I had a problem with the AG who was there. He was fairly incompetent, but now I have a very competent lady, and I can assure you the issues of Waqf will be sorted out,” he added.
President Ruto broke his silence after a section of Muslim leaders approached him, seeking his intervention over the delays in establishing the endowment fund.
Muturi has been a critic of President Ruto’s administration from within, accusing the government of allegedly failing to address the prevalent abduction cases in the country.
While addressing the press recently, Muturi dismissed speculations of resigning from his position, adding that he was focused on ensuring accountability within the government.
“Why would I resign for saying the truth? I must speak the truth; if there is a mistake, I must come out and defend Keyans,” Muturi told the press.
