We have not received funds as Promised by CS Machogu- School heads lament.
Speaking to the press, Kenyan school heads raised that the 28B promised to schools by the education cabinet secretary, had not yet been disbursed.
Machogu had stated,”The amount of money that the government is releasing this week on Friday is Ksh28 billion,
According to the teachers, the funds would have been disbursed latest Friday, June 2 but it is now sunday and learning has been largely affected.
One stated,”We only hear the news on the radio that the funds were meant to have reached the schools but we have not received any money.”
Education CS had earlier informed the committee that the ministry of education, delayed disbursment because they wanted to seal any pothole through which, money will can be lost.
He stated,”We cannot just give out funds. We had to get the specific figure and ensure it was captured in Nemis because if we just give out the money, the government would have lost a lot.”
“So we wanted to do it right which we have done. The schools will receive the money by next week including the various Junior Secondary Schools,” Machogu added.
According to statistics, The government gives Ksh1,420 for every student in primary school, Ksh15,040 for every student in Junior Secondary School and Ksh22,240 for each Senior Secondary School student.
The money is in turn used to cater for learning materials and other adminstrative necessities, in public schools.
