Kenya kwanza MP’s comprehensive plan to combat climate change; Speaking to the media, Keiyo South Member of parliament stated that he is in support of increasing the tree cover in Kenya.
He stated,”To contribute to the fight against climate change and support President William Ruto ‘s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032, I have developed a comprehensive plan.
The essence of my plan is to plant a total of 52 million trees over the course of five years, which means we will aim to plant 5.2 million trees annually. This initiative not only helps combat climate change but also empowers my constituents,” he added.
He decried that one of the major challenge in his constituency is the illegal burning of charcoal which has costed forests.
He stated,”One of the major challenges in my constituency, as well as in other parts of the country, is the widespread practice of charcoal burning, which has resulted in significant forest destruction.
“I am determined to put an end to this destructive activity while ensuring the sustainability of livelihoods and providing alternative sources of income. To achieve this, I have encouraged my constituents to form youth groups and establish tree nurseries, which will serve as the source of seedlings for our planting efforts,” he added.
Notably, he revealed that they have been receiving support from various sectors, which has resulted into the success of the tree planting.
He stated,”I am proud to report that we have already made substantial progress towards our goals. Currently, we have successfully planted 500,000 trees as part of this initiative.”
”Additionally, we have received support from various organizations within the country, and we remain optimistic about attracting more organizations to join our cause. By working together, we can make a significant positive impact in mitigating climate change and addressing the challenges of global warming,” he added.
