Over 5.4 Million Kenyans have filed their returns – KRA reveals.
In a press release, Kenya revenue Authority commended Kenyans who have file theie returns this year. They revealed that the total number of Kenyans who have filed their taxes represents a 16 per cent growth.
KRA stated,”Over 5.4 Million Kenyans had filed their returns as of 28th June 2023, representing a 16% growth compared to the returns submitted same period last year.”
“The increment in the number of returns filed, reflects increased tax compliance rate. Tax compliance has experienced significant growth over a five-year period, from 2 million returns filed for 2017 to 5.5 million returns filed for the 2021 year of income,” KRA added.
The revenue authority termed this as a symbol of partriotism from every Kenyan. They appreciated every individual who took their time to comply to paying their fair share of taxes.
They stated,” The growth is fuelled by taxpayers who have embraced the call of partriotism, to pay their fair share of taxes. KRA appreciates all taxpayers( Individual and non- individual, resident and non- resident) for consistently taking the initiative and complying with their return filling policy.”
“Over the years, KRA has also enhanced its service support framework by providing offsite filling support during the Ushuru Mashinani engagements, extended working hours at KRA service centres and select huduma centres,” they added.
Notably, KRA revealed that they have been able to aggressively reach taxpayers through return filling guides and tutorial videos on the KRA website, virtual support through contact centre and social media services.
Additionally, KRA has collaborated with government agencies, community leaders, business member organisations, religious organisations and academic institutions to provide onsite filling support.
Deadline for filling returns is on 30th June 2023.
