Sisi Mambo yetu tungojee- Ruto turns down SRC’s 14 per cent salary increase.
Speaking at KICC where he unveiled digitized government services, President Ruto stated that a salary increase for top government officials is uncalled for.
He ordered the salaries remuneration commission to develop an internationally recognised system to reduce the gap between civil servants’ salaries.
He stated,”For the other people, the state officers, myself, my deputy, ministers, PSs na wale wadosi wengine wa bunge, sisi mambo yetu tungojee. Hiyo mshahara itakwama hapo.”
”I have instructed the SRC to give us international best practice because we need to reduce the gap between all of us who work for the people of Kenya. We need to make sure that the gap between the person paid the least and the person paid the most is not too big,” he added.
The head of state however, stated that it is wise for a section of civil servants to have their salaries increased, to caution them from the tough economic times.
He stated,”I know there is a proposal by SRC for the increase of salaries of different cadres of both civil servants and other public servants. Because of the economic times we live in, we have approved that salaries of other civil servants can be adjusted beginning tomorrow.”
This comes after SRC proposed a salary increase for the president, Deputy president, Cabinet secretaries and Other top government officials, to caution them from them tough economic times.
