We are not interested in fighting any media house- CS Owalo.
Speaking during the Jeff Koinange Live, The ICT cabinet secretary highlighted that the government is in no way trying to fight any media house.
He cited that what the government is trying to do, is making sure government resources are utilized without any bias or political affiliation basis.
He also stated that the government has no problem with the media oversight on how Kenya kwanza is running the country.
Notably, he expressed that at no point did any Kenya kwanza ally say that they want the media to go to bed with the government.
He urged the media to be objective and impartial but the media must operate within some act of responsibility.
He stated,”We are not interested in fighting Citizen or any other media house. What I’m saying is there has to be prudence in utilization of govt resources, and I will fulfil that to the letter.”
“At no point in time have we said that the media should not exercise its mandate of oversighting gov’t; continue doing that. It will facilitate prudence in utilisation of resources,” he added.
The cabinet secretary further stated that in this digital age, the media must also reorient itself. Strategic agility and manoeuvrability in that operational environment is what’s going to make you survive.
He stated,”We spend about Ksh.60M in the private sector to print My Gov. I can use a gov’t entity to print My Gov at Ksh.3M. Gov’t has been losing that money, and nobody has cared to take corrective action; I’m coming in to introduce change for the good of Kenyans.”
