TSC puts strategies in place, that show that the commission has realigned itself with the Bottom- up Economic Agenda.
Speaking during the launch of the commission’s five year plan, The teachers service commission chief executive officer, Nancy Macharia stated that the first thing they will do is hire more teachers, to deal with the shortage in schools and employment for graduate teachers.
She highlighted that in the next five years, they project to recruit a total of 111,870. She however, outlined that the commission needs an additional Sh134.5 billion for the successful implementation of the plan.
She stated,“This plan will serve as a basis for planning and resource allocation to not only support the education vision under BETA but also the efficient and effective execution of the Commission’s mandate,”
According to the head of state, a one-year paid National Internship Programme for all students graduating from teachers, technical and medical colleges, and universities, by collaborating with industry stakeholders will be given.
The TSC CEO stated that the commission review the internship policy and strengthen the teacher internship program to combat or curb any risks and challenges earlier.
She stated,”This will assist the commission to identify challenges, risks and propose appropriate interventions in a timely manner.”
TSC will also develop and operationalise an affirmative action framework in teacher management and also Implement the staffing norms policy.
Nancy stated,”The strategic focus areas outlined in this plan will inform the annual performance targets and implementation priorities.”
