If citizens are unarmed let them protest- CS Kindiki to the police.
Speaking at Tharaka Nithi on Sunday, Interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki warned the police against harming Unarmed citizens who are protesting.
He highlighted that that If citizens are unarmed then the police should let them say whatever they want to say, because they have a right to protest.
He stated,“Kama wananchi hawana silaha, wachana na wananchi waseme mambo yao. Kama hawajabeba silaha, hawaumizi mtu, hawavunji duka ya mtu wacha waongee mambo yao. Ikifika jioni wataenda nyumbani, ikiwezekana wasindikishwe.”
He further warned any police officer against using unnecessary force, to disperse protestors,
He stated,”Kuna wenzetu katika idara ya usalama, wachache pia ambao wanatumia nguvu visivyo na hiyo haitakubalika,”
This comes after the law enforcement fired teargas and used water canons to block the protestors from accessing the Central Business District after they left Kamukunji grounds.
Separately, on Saturday, The police fired teargas at the former chief justice Willy Mutunga, and other activists who were demanding for the release of Saba Saba protestors.
One activist decried,” No one was protesting. were there to demand the unconditional release of peaceful protesters who are being held illegally at Central Police Station. Also, our Constitution allows the right to protest, anywhere and everywhere. Constitution allows that.”
“Imagine brutalising, and teargassing peaceful citizens at a police station! Congratulations @WilliamsRuto, and @rigathi @IG_NPS for showing your true colours. Watoto wa Moi ni Moi. Our Constitution is supreme and resistance to dictatorship and impunity is our life duty! KANU 2.0,” he added.
