We need more trees not less- Miguna uproar on logging in The Country.
The vocal advocate, decried that if the country is not keen, it will soon fall into a desert like other places.
He pointed fingers towards the private sector, highlighting that they are making Kenya food insecure, for their own selfish gains.
Miguna stated,”Kenya has become a semi-arid country because of poor environmental management. Kenya is not food secure because of the misguided focus on PRIVATE profit making rather than the PUBLIC GOOD.”
He advised that in order to deal with the cost of living, some policies in the country must change, or Kenyans will continue crying for food.
He stated,”The cost of living won’t improve unless Kenyans change and focus on policies and programs that serve most residents rather than less than 1% profiteers. We need more trees not less.
Notably, Miguna Miguna outlined that anyone who wants to cut trees, must also be ready to plant and take care of the seedlings.
He further warned that cutting trees will cause more harm if the government is not keen on the ban that was lifted on logging.
He stated,”Before anyone is allowed to cut down one mature tree, they should be compelled to plant, water and care for at last 15 seedlings. If we don’t do this, we will soon become another desert like the Kalahari desert, or the Namib desert.
“Nooooo! Stop this reckless destruction of forests! These heartless loggers won’t replace the forests they are destroying by planting even a single seedling,” he added.
