Day two after the surprise attack: New developments on Israel- Palestine war.
October 8th 2023, marks the second day after Palestine launched a surprise attack on Israel. The fight between Israel forces and Hamas continues with hundreds killed on both sides.
Approximately 2.3 million palestianians who reside at the Gaza Strip spent the night in terror and fear, after Israel declared that they are officially in a war and not an escalation.
Israel forces tore down a 14-storey tower, that held dozens of apartments as well as Hamas offices in central Gaza City. It is reported that they also struck the home of Hamas’s intelligence chief in the Gaza Strip.
Further, The Israeli Forces fired barrages of artillery into southern Lebanon after Hezbollah targeted three Israeli military positions in the disputed Shebaa Farms.
According to the local media, Israel forces have currently taken control of a police station in the southern city of Sderot, killing at least 10 Palestinian fighters.
Notably, the number of palestinians who lost their lives in the besieged Gaza Strip has risen to 256. About 1,800 others were wounded, as reported by the ministry of health.
This included 20 children, according to the Ministry of Health; At least 120 minors were wounded.
United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is expected to hold emergency closed meetings in the course of the day.
Egypt is also in talks with Saudi Arabia and Jordan to defuse Palestinian-Israeli tensions. This is after Saudi Arabia called for an immediate cessation of the war.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stated,” particularly in light of what cities and areas of the West Bank are witnessing of Israeli attacks and violations against the Palestinian people.”
On his part, United States President, Joe Biden described Saturday’s Hamas attacks in Israel as “unconscionable” and his administration pledged to ensure Israel has “what it needs to defend itself.”
