DP Gachagua to sack over 100 chiefs for failure to combat illicit brew.
Speaking at Nandi County, Deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua swore to sack about 100 chiefs, for their laxity in combating illicit brew.
He highlighted that the chiefs will serve as an example to all civil servants who have failed in their roles in government.
He stated,” I want before Christmas in the whole country to sack about 100 chiefs so that they can be an example to others who are not working.”
The second in command revealed that among that 100 who will suffer the retrenchment, 10- 15 chiefs, will come from Nandi County.
He further stated that this was a decision agreed upon between himself, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.
He warned,” I love chiefs but I love the young people more. County Commissioner, can you call your chiefs and your village elders and agree.”
The deputy president has been vocal about the end of illicit brew in the Country. Earlier this year, he revealed that the government was ready to put through rehabilitation, youths who will quit the use illicit brew.
He also highlighted that as a way to address the menace of illicit brew and substance abuse in our nation, we must all pull together in one direction to save our generation from perishing. A multi-sectoral approach to this end brings an impetus to achieving positive results.
He stated,”Mt Kenya Region, in particular the former Central Province, has borne the brunt of illicit brew and substance abuse. The situation is so dire; we are staring at losing an entire generation to this menace, especially in Nyandarua, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nyeri counties.”
”Our resolve to end alcoholism, manufacturing, and sale of Illicit brew and drug abuse remains strong. It’s time to deal with this danger, which threatens to wipe out our youthful generation,” he added.
