KNUT raises complaints over Teachers’ Health Insurance Schemes.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Bungoma branch has urged the government to scrap off one Teachers’ Insurance Scheme from the paycheck, citing that they have become a burden.
Speaking to the press, Bungoma County Knut Executive Secretary Kenneth Nganga said teachers are deducted from both Minet and National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) schemes.
He stated,”The doubled deductions have become a burden to the teachers that is the reason why Knut is asking the government to do away with one scheme to give teachers an easy time.”
On a different concern, he Commended President William Ruto for employing an additional 55,000 teachers, however, saying that Bungoma is still in serious need of over 3,000 teachers.
He stated,”Knut thanks the Kenya Kwanza government for employing 55,000 teachers who will be distributed across schools but some counties like Bungoma still need more to fit the students and teachers ratio,”
On matters, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examinations, he called upon all students to adequately prepare for the same.
He stated,” I plead with both students and teachers that let’s work hard and maintain the name of Bungoma. Last year, we produced the top KCPE Candidate so this year let us still maintain the same.”
