Two candidates in Tharaka Nithi die after consuming Ethanol.
It is reported that the two candidates from Karigini Mixed Day Secondary School, consumed ethanol in the school laboratory.
Tharaka Nithi county police commander Zacchaeus Ngeno said 11 other students, including four girls and seven boys, are receiving treatment at Chuka County Referral Hospital, where they were rushed for treatment on Saturday afternoon.
He stated,“We have been told the students took the chemical on Thursday evening but only one showed signs of dizziness immediately. We have since established it is the cause of the deaths.”
“The deceased were rushed to hospital on Saturday morning after their health deteriorated,” he added.
The commander stated that a multiagency team of security, education and health officials visited the school on saturday, where they probed and found out that the students had consumed ethanol.
However, samples have been taken and an investigation is underway to understand what really happened to the students.
The detective stated,”An autopsy on the bodies and tests on those in hospital will tell us more. Let us wait.”
This comes days after schools did their rehearsals, in preparation for the national examinations.
