CS Machogu Defies proposal on Introduction of Standardized School Uniform.
Speaking on Tuesday when he appeared before the National Assembly Committee, Education CS explained why the ministry had not yet adopted to the new proposal by members of parliament, on uniforms.
The cabinet secretary argued that Kenya experiences different climatic conditions in different which would have been a consideration when proposing, a standardized school uniform countrywide.
The CS also cited that Kenya has different cultures and there are uniforms that represent the same.
CS Machogu stated,”School uniform has become some kind of tradition. Again, the climatic and weather conditions of this country vary from one place to another.”
“If for example, you go to a place like Timboroa where the temperatures can be so low and people require sweaters but the same may not be required in other areas like say Turkana,” he argued.
This comes after the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms, argued that through the Introduction of a standardized school uniform, School heads will stop their tendency of forcing parent to buy overpriced uniform from specific shops.
The Education cabinet secretary argued that a circular had already been circulated to all schools, directing parents not to fall prey, for the principals’ cunning and extorting ways.
Machogu stated,” A circular is not a policy… A circular is a communication of some information from the ministry , you can set out a policy on standardisation and production of school uniforms in the country.”
