CS Chelugui Issues a statement on his involvement in First Choice Scandal.
In a press release, CS Chelugui distanced himself from the saga saying that he does not have any connections with the company as pointed out in various publications.
He however, revealed that in 2021, while serving as the Labour cabinet secretary, he was invited to an event organised by the company as a chief guest.
He stated,”Indeed, I was invited by the organisers on May 15, 2021, to preside over the flagging off of more than 200 youth who had secured job opportunities in qatar during the 2022 world cup.”
“As the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection at the time, I was obliged to honour the invite and grace the event because I felt it was a great opportunity for our youth and our country. Also used the occasion to promote government policy on labour migration,” he added.
Notably, The cabinet secretary outlined that he has always conducted himself with Integrity, As a person and as a civil servant. He therefore, demanded an apology from all media outlets, linking him to the saga.
He stated,” I have always conducted myself with a high level of professionalism; honour and dignity while discharging my duties at all times.”
“Therefore, I urge Kenyans to ignore these malicious reports with the contempt it deserves. In conclusion, I demand an unequivocal apology with equivalent prominence,” he added.
First Choice is being accused of running a fake job scheme where innocent Kenyans were promised jobs abroad including the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
CS Chelugui, is facing investigations alongside senior businessmen and a Senator from The Rift Valley.
