I cannot sit quietly listening to lies- Politicians vow to skip Ruto’s state address.
A few minutes from now, President Ruto is expected to address the nation. However, citing the current state of affairs, some politicians have sworn not to attend the address.
Nairobi Senator Sifuna stated,”The standing orders require that the head of state in an address to Parliament be heard in silence,”
“Ruto cannot be trusted to paint the true picture of the State of the Nation which as you know is dire. I cannot sit quietly listening to lies. For these reasons and out of respect for the institution of Parliament I shall not attend the state of the nation address,” he added.
Senator Onyonka stated,”If fuel goes to 300 a litre, you people are in trouble, you are in a mess, Kenyans are feeling that they are being overtaxed. You are overtaxing Kenyans, the president is making 46 trips abroad, and the deputy president going to Columbia is just walking in the park, your guys are driving fuel guzzlers, Landcruiser V8,”
“Dear Mr President, the baby you created figure out what to do with it. Do not tell us what happened during the handshake,” he added.
The State of the Nation Address is requirement of Article 132 of the Kenyan Constitution, which dictates that the president must address the nation atleast once a year.
The constitution reads,”Once every year, a report, in an address to the nation, on all the measures taken and the progress achieved in the realisation of the national values,”
The constitution also dictates that the head of state must present a report for debate to the National Assembly on the progress made in fulfilling the international obligations of the Republic.
