Gov’t double speak on El nino; During his address at Harambee House on Friday while launching rain mitigation measures Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua urged Kenyans to prepare themselves for El nino rains.
He outlined that the rains are expected to run until next year, In the first quarter of 2024.
He stated,”The matter is settled. El Nino, it is.”
He Issued New Mitigation Measures; Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will deploy airplanes that will carry examination papers during KCSE, to avoid inconveniences.
He stated,”The KDF is running an operation centre at the KDF headquarters. The Ministry of Interior is providing a security response.”
DP Gachagua also stated that emergency response teams that will be responding to life-threatening incidents have been put in place.
Notably, Flood- prone areas have been covered through the relief food that will be provided by the government.
DP Gachagua stated,”In working with our development partners, we are distributing food maize rice and cooking oil to families to reduce the suffering of affected families.”
Earlier, Kenya meteorological department Director, David Gikunyu, issued an update to Kenyans and said everyone should brace themselves for el nino rains.
He warned that there has been alot of miscommunication but the el nino rains are here with us.
He stated,”I want to point out that we have El Nino in this short rainy season. We do apologise for the lack of communication or miscommunication because that was a big mistake. Let us prepare because of the phenomenon of El Nino that we are experiencing.”
