DP Gachagua strikes Mombasa Governor For Neglecting Flood- Affected Families
The second in command, DP Gachagua strikes Mombasa Governor, Abdulswamad Nassir For Neglecting Flood- Affected Families in Mombasa.
The deputy president was Speaking on Tuesday in Kisauni, where he pointed fingers at the Governor for failing to expedite mitigation measures to contain the disaster occasioned by the heavy rains.
The second in command was distributing relief food to families in Kisauni where he further demanded that Governor Nassir immediately put on hold development projects and shift his focus on the distribution of medical supplies and food to assist families affected by the El Nino rains in the country.
He stated,” I want to tell the Govenor of Mombasa, Mr Nassir… utoe miguu kwa gunia… As the national government, we shall try and purchase food. But we want the county government of Mombasa… the Governor to release the funds to buy food for the county residents. We don’t want to see any governor blaming the national government for not distributing food. As the Governor, you also have money,”
“Why are you keeping money idle in the bank? Every Governor whose county has been affected by floods… suspend any other development activities and provide food, medicine and blankets for the people. Once this crisis is over we shall go back to development issues. What is the purpose of the development projects you are doing if people are dying? If the people die, who will the projects benefit?” He added.
The deputy president commended Other governors from North Eastern for standing up for their citizens unlike The Mombasa Governor.
DP Gachagua,” I want to commend the Governors of Wajir, Garissa and Mandera. They have released Ksh.50 million to feed residents in those counties. We want to see the same done here (Mombasa) and Tana River. Release funds for families to get food, medicine and blankets,”
“So, stop all those activities, Governor Nassir. We have a big problem here in Mombasa. It’s only your county government that has not allocated funds for the people. Don’t depend on us in Nairobi. First, play your part then we will allocate you additional funds,” he added.
