New Alcohol and Drug Abuse Measures: NACADA Officers to raid homes, Businesses this festive season.
In a notice from the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, New Alcohol and Drug Abuse Measures have been put up in accordance to the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act (ADCA), 2010.
The cabinet secretary outlined that the NACADA officers may enter any place which they believe hosts a suspect or runs drugs contrary to what is provided by the constitution.
They will however, access the premises with the consent of an occupant or with a warrant order issued by a magistrate or judge of the High Court.
Notably, they will be allowed to access the buildings between 12pm and 6 pm.
NACADA CEO stated,”Previously, NACADA had to rely on the National Police Service officers to enforce its laws. The latest development affords officers of the Authority operational independence, and they may request the support of police officers only where necessary.”
The NACADA Chief executive officer Omerikwa, warned suspects from obstructing or hindering his officers from carrying out their duties or issuing false or misleading statements contrary to the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act (ADCA), 2010.
He stated,”This now means that NACADA can fully implement its supply suppression strategies confidently with the full backing of the law.”
“I want to assure the public that moving forward, we shall do things differently to ensure that the law is followed as expected. We are also calling on all stakeholders in the alcoholic drinks space to play within the rules to avoid legal action,” he added.
He further commended the Interior cabinet secretary for the new measures even as people approach the festive season.
He stated,”These (a powerless NACADA) are some of the teething problems that have been acting as stumbling blocks to the effective implementation of our mandate but I am glad that we are now past that.”
