Mudavadi’s sentiments of ‘either you go into debt or you tax’ has raised uproar on the socials: Speaking at the Annual delegates conference and silver Jubilee Celebrations, Prime cabinet secretary, Musalia Mudavadi raised that the only way for the gov’t to cater for itself is through taxing.
He stated,”A government can only raise its money from basically two sources: either you go into debt or you tax. Recently we have seen taxing and levies have reached their limit, it is very painful. As a government as a nation, we must now think away from continuously taxing the people of Kenya to start looking at what are the other areas we can raise resources, inject money into the system so that we can release resources to ease the burden that the teachers of this country are facing,”
“It will take us a bit of time because defaulting is not an option. We are likely to see a difficult 2-3 years as a nation before we start seeing reprieve. But there is hope at the end of the tunnel,” he added.
Notably, The CS expressed that their main aim is to pull Kenya out of the challenges it is facing.
He stated,”Our position now as government is to acknowledge that we have a challenge, not to lament anymore but to acknowledge that we have a challenge and then we work our way out of that challenge going forward.”
