‘Mathe wa Ngara’ case takes shape, Court gives a ruling: Nancy Kigunzu, popularly known as ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ in local circles, has been freed on a Ksh.1 million cash bail in the ongoing drug trafficking case charged against her.
The judge issued a verdict on Wednesday, However, the Nairobi Court ordered Kigunzu to surrender her passport to the court.
‘Mathe Wa Ngara’ has been detained since her arrest on August 21 in connection with a drug bust in Nairobi’s Ngara area, where quantities and quantities of bhang and Ksh.13.4 million in cash were seized.
Kigunzu had tried to apply for bail, two weels after her arrested, but it was denied citing that she is a flight risk because of her alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
She further tried applying for a bond, citing that she had an underlying medical condition that required constant monitoring and medication, which could worsen if she remains in jail.
However, Magistrate Njeri Thuku ruled that granting her bond was not in the best interests of justice.
