No Christmas Caravan this year- Passaris calls out Treasury for not disbursing Funds.
Nairobi County Women Representative, Esther Passaris has explained why this year’s christmas, won’t be celebrated like other.
Her response came after a Nairobi Resident requested her for a Christmas token.
The resident wrote,”Madam naomba Christmas kutoka kwako from here Ngando Ward Dagoretti.”
However, Passaris responded: “No Christmas Caravan this year as Treasury Kenya has yet to release quarter one and two funds. I am sorry. To move things forward we need to pay our taxes; tighten our belts; pay our debts & firmly address corruption. I am prayerful and hopeful it shall be well.”
Her response has brought up a debate, with Leaders such as Robert Alai telling her not to ‘whine’ about taxes.
Alai wrote,”A leader has network. You can’t whine about taxes.”
His comment however, did not sit well with passaris who highlighted that leaders should not use networks to manage expectations.
Passaris wrote,”You have a ward. I have 85 wards. Are you suggesting that Leaderships should use their networks to manage expectations in their wards,constituencies, counties, ministries etc ? I am a realist. Governments run on efficient collection and utilisation of taxes.”
Netizens have additionally reacted;
Nyabul wrote,”That’s why I always insist that the Women Rep seat adds no value to Kenyans.
It should be scrapped instead of funding it with our taxes. Our taxes should be spent on development and not legislation.”
Another netizen wrote,”To move things forward, you need to do your job as an MP. Scrutinize budgets, cut down expenditures and stop your unholy dalliance with the executive. The lack of money is a symptom of failed leadership by parliament because of self-seeking MPs like you.”
Arisa expressed,”Parliament is our weakest link. U no longer do your oversight role. We unfortunately just have CDF managers. Am sure you will pass the establishment of CAS position whereas we having shortage of teachers, nurses & Docs.”
