Return of Protests 2024: Raila Issues an ultimatum to the gov’t, saying if they don’t revoke taxes, Kenyans will return to the streets.
Raila was speaking in Nyanza where he blamed the government for increasing taxes which have led to a tough economic situation across the country.
He stated,” In this government, you thought that the ‘hustlers’ would hear you. We found out that they were just words. Kenyans felt bad about the situation in 2023.”
“We told them not to increase taxes but they went ahead and raised the taxes, worsening the situation. These taxes must be revoked, the Finance Act must be removed. If they don’t we will return to the streets in 2024,” he added.
Opposition leader Raila has been vocal about the high cost of living, most importantly urging the Government to reduce taxes. He revealed that people have been urging him to recall protests in 2024.
Raila stated,”People are asking me to ask people to come out on the streets. Those who were saying demonstrations were destroying their businesses and now they are asking me to ask people to come out. Other people are saying no, don’t ask them to come out, Baba keep quiet. We talk when it’s necessary and times are going to come, right now we are following a different path,”
“This country cannot continue to be ruled with hypocrisy and lies. Kenyans know that we were not in government, we were in the opposition. Those who were in government were criticizing it because they were campaigning to succeed it. They are responsible for everything that happened to that government,”he added:
