CS Machogu responds to Attacks on principals, Issues a Thorough Warning to Parents: Education cabinet secretary has warned parents storming schools to harass teachers and principals over poor performance in national examinations.
The Cabinet secretary expressed that it is not right for parents and students to target school administrators since they are just a guiding tool and cannot be held solely responsible for pupil and student performance both in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya certificate of Secondary education.
He stated,”We wish to remind communities behind these regrettable attacks that learner achievement in examinations is the reflection of the overall input from all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and candidates themselves,”
As a way of avoiding any future incidents, Machogu warned that any similar act will be treated as acts of crime which will be dealt with by the authorities in full force.
Notably, he advised parents and students who were not satisfied with the 2023 KCPE& KCSE results to report the matter through legal means for the relevant authorities to take action.
However, Machogu stated that the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had put in place measures and relevant mechanisms for evaluating the performance of teachers and field officers.
If any teacher is proven as non-performing, they shall be dealt with per existing laws and policies.
