Breaking News: MoH issues alert on red eye infections: Department of Health Services in Mombasa County has issued a statement highlighting the alarming cases of infection, coming on the heels of a similar upswing reported in neighboring Tanzania.
They stated that Conjunctivitis can be caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens, or irritants, manifesting in symptoms such as eye pain, swelling, redness, itchiness, and eye discharge.
Consequently, authorities are advising citizens to adopt strict hygiene measures. This includes frequent handwashing with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds, avoiding the touching or rubbing of eyes and face, and refraining from sharing personal items like towels, pillowcases, eye drops, or makeup.
The advisory emphasizes the contagious nature of red eye, highlighting the importance of covering the nose and mouth while coughing or sneezing, proper disposal of tissues, disinfecting surfaces regularly touched, and wearing sunglasses to mitigate further eye irritation.
Notably, Anyone experiencing symptoms such as redness, itching, blurred vision, or eye discharge are urged to seek immediate medical attention.
