Debate Ignites as UoN Students are To Pay For Meals Through E-Citizen: In a statement, University of Nairobi students and staff will now be required to make payments through the e-Citizen platform when paying for meals.
This is according to a directive from the government to the university, that all payments to the institution be made through the government online portal.
The memo read,”The Kenyan Government has mandated that all payments to the University of Nairobi be made via the E-Citizen platform. Complying with this directive, the University has established the required systems to enable clients to make payments through E-Citizen. To pay for services, please follow the instructions provided below.”
It instructed the payment to be made through paybill number 222222, after which a user will enter Outlet/Live identifier in capital letters followed by a hyphen and name (e.g. NUK1-name) as account number.
The university further gave payment details (Outlet/Live Identifiers) for different kitchens.
The directive applies to different kitchens in the main campus and other satellite campuses within Nairobi.
The government, through Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u in December 2023 announced the introduction of access fees for government services on the e-Citizen platform.
