NEWS JUST IN: Kisii Deputy Governor Impeached: Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda was on Thursday, February 29, 2024, impeached from office.
Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) made good their threat to ouster him out of office with 53 members voting in favour of his ouster.
Monda was accused of bribery, and abuse of power, among other accusations, which formed the basis of the impeachment motion.
The 15 who voted against the motion, argued that there was lack of democracy in how the impeachment plot was hatched and executed, citing that it was unfair.
Ichuni MCA Wycliffe Siocha filed an impeachment motion against him, accusing him of graft charges, which he denied while appearing before the Assembly on Thursday morning.
At the centre of his impeachment, was a claim that the DG had received a bribe to influence the employment of a youth in the county office.
Despite there being mobile money transactions and bank statement evidence, Monda stated that the money received from the youth’s father was repayment for a loan he had granted him.
In his defence, the Deputy Governor claimed that the Ksh500,000, forwarded to his contact, was a refund for money he had earlier extended to the father, who is a family friend
