MP Salasya Replaced in Parliamentary Committee Role.
MP Salasya Replaced in Parliamentary Committee Role: On Tuesday, March 5, the National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, announced the replacement of Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya from the Departmental Committee on Regional Development.
Wetangula revealed that the Mumias East legislator will be replaced by Rongo Sub County MP Paul Abuor.
These changes were made following the approval of his revocation from the Committee by the majority of legislators.
Speaker Wetangula stated,”Further to the resolution of the house of Tuesday, October 27, 2022, appointing members into the various committees and according to the provisions of standing order 173, this house further approves the appointment of Paul Abuor MP to replace Peter Kalerwa Salasya MP in the departmental committee of Regional Development.”
The changes were effected after concerns raised by the Majority Leader of the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, regarding the non-participation of some legislators in their respective committees.
Ichung’wah called on a reevaluation of the participation of MPs in their various committees to ascertain those who were not attending the committee sittings.
He stated, “Immediately after the recess, the selections committee shall be sitting to reevaluate the performance of members in committees because a reevaluation process will mean not just attendance but how actively you participate in committee sittings,”
“We are reevaluating your active participation in committees since we are almost mid-term and we evaluate who is keen on their varied committees,” he added.
According to the Kikuyu Member of Parliament, the National Assembly leadership would also evaluate members’ attendance in the chamber.
Ichungwah stated,” We have a challenge, and many times the speaker sits on his seat and waits for members for ten minutes to find their way into the chamber at 2.30 pm,”
