Viral Student Impresses Kenyans After Building Helicopter From Scratch: Allan Kipng’eno, a student from the University of Kabianga, is chasing his dream of making a fully functioning helicopter.
On Sunday, March 10, the young innovator impressed residents of Belgut, Kericho County after showcasing his milestone achievement— a near complete helicopter he handedly built from scratch.
The handmade aircraft is currently undergoing the final touches before Kipng’eno can say it’s ready. The students has received praises from residents and Kenyans who saw him at work in a viral video.
During an interview, Kipng’eno revealed that he was pursuing a course in Agriculture and Education but he developed passion in Aviation.
He added that he began taking the first steps towards building an aircraft in 2019, when he completed high school. Since then, he has been working towards ensuring that the aircraft finally takes off.
He stated, “I left high school in 2018 and began working on the design. I later joined campus but did not have the funds to pursue my aviation dream.”
Kipng’eno explained that he was looking for a sponsor to help make his dream come true and build a fully functional helicopter.
He added that even without the external funding, he was committed to making his dream come true. He further revealed this was his seventh attempt at building a helicopter.
The student detailed that he uses scrap metal and other materials which are available to him. He, however, complained that the lack of a better engine has derailed his progress.
Kipng’eno revealed that currently, the helicopter can not fly due to the type of engine fitted.
