Kirinyaga woman Weds dead husband who passed in a road accident: A congregation today gathered at Our Lady Consolata Rukenya Church in Gichugu where they witnessed the burial and “wedding” of Martin Gitari, a man who tragically passed away three weeks before his planned wedding.
According to reports, ‘Martin Gichugu who is aged 60 died on Saturday, March 16th, 2024 before he could wed his his fiancée, Beatrice Muthoni in their wedding day, scheduled for Saturday, April 6th, 2024.
Martin’s sister stated,” We are celebrating two occasions, burying him and at the same time celebrating his marriage.”
The truly unique ceremony was presided by Father Sammy Njoroge of Kutus Catholic Parish where it started by Beatrice Muthoni placing a wedding ring on his deceased husband’s finger at the morgue before proceeding to church for the rest of the ceremony that included song, dance and cake cutting.
Father Njoroge stated,” This is my first such occasion since I became a priest, and we have done exactly what he wanted.”
At the church, Beatrice had a ring placed on her finger by her grandson.
Beatrice stated,” My grandson Felix Gitari was the one who put the wedding ring on me to represent his grandfather as my husband. I’m happy and, at the same time, sad.”
After the ‘wedding’ ceremony, Beatrice changed her gown then proceeded with the ‘ burial’ where her late husband was later laid to rest.
