KNEC reveals system error that made some 2023 KCSE candidates get higher grades.
KNEC reveals system error: A shocking reveal was made during the grilling of Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere by the National Assembly Education Committee regarding grade discrepancies in 2023 KCSE.
According to the examination council, A system error led to the omission of minus signs (-) for some grades. Which means that some students’ grades were printed as, e.g, D (plain) instead of D- (minus).
A total of 3,018 candidates across 1,059 examination centres nationwide are said to have been affected by this system glitch.
A twist however, came in when KNEC argued that the online portal provided accurate results and those discrepancies were solely in the printed nominal rolls distributed to schools.
On his part, Education cabinet secretary, Ezekiel Machogu reiterated that a technical team is already in place, to avoid in future technicalities.
He stated,” A technical team was constituted, with representation from the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, the National Computer and Cybercrimes Coordination Unit and the ICT Authority. By a letter dated March 4, 2024, the team submitted its report to the Ministry of Education.”
This comes after students and parents raised alarm on changing portal results, hours after they logged in and confirmed their 2023 KCSE Results.
