Protests Erupt on Thika Superhighway as Residents Clash With Police: Traffic along the Thika superhighway was on Wednesday paralysed after Githurai 45 residents staged demos along the highway.
The residents barricaded the highway with rocks, which halted the movement of vehicles and forcing motorists to look for alternative routes.
The residents have lamented the government’s reluctancy to counter the flooding menace that has been caused by the ongoing heavy rains.
The frustrated residents Also accused the government of failing to provide tangible solutions as the floods continue causing havox.
Videos that have circulated online indicated residents confronting a group of police officers who attempted to water down the situation.
The residents who aggressively approached the police were repelled using tear gas canisters lobbed at them by the officers.
Even as the situation escalated, passengers were stranded in the vehicles and were forced to alight and walk on foot to their destinations.
This comes hours after the Kenya Red Cross saved 18 people, including 11 adults and 7 children from flood waters at the Mradi area of Mathare.
