End of National Schools as Gov’t Reveals New Form of Categorisation.
End of National Schools as Gov’t Reveals New Form of Categorisation: on Thursday, April 25, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, announced that the government was doing away with the national categorisation of schools
Belio cited that this is one of the many ways to implement the new curriculum. Under the 8-4-4 system, secondary schools are categorised as national, extra-county, county and sub-county
Belio stated,”We will soon convene a stakeholders engagement on the pathways and pathway placement in Senior School. Secondary schools will soon be categorised according to the pathways they will offer.”
Consequently, Secondary schools will be renamed as senior schools and this is where pupils from Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) will enrol.
This senior schools will Be identified based on the combination of subjects they offer. The subjects being offered currently include; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centres, Humanities and Arts Schools, and Creative Arts and Sports Schools.
However, This news classification will largely depend on the resources and infrastructural capacity of the academic institution.
This means, national schools which most likely contain ready resources such as libraries, laboratories, and social amenities, are aimed to provide a combination of the three subjects.
Notably, sub-county schools with somehow limited resources, will offer only one combination of subjects.
