CS Alfred Mutua Announces Evacuation Guidelines for Hotels: Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua on Wednesday, May 1, stated that all hotels adjacent to rivers should prepare for possible evacuation.
All hotels and camps adjacent to rivers within national parks and reserves should prepare for potential evacuations should rivers overflow
He added that the hotels should also develop clear evacuation, transportation, and hospitality protocols
“Several camps have been impacted, prompting our coordinated rescue efforts, which have been effective thus far,” Mutua added.
Mutua issued the warning after several hotels, lodges and camps in Maasai Mara Game Reserve were submerged.
Already, different government agencies have been deployed to the scene to evacuate affected staffers and clients in the hotels.
There were no fatalities reported in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve incident although over 120 people have already lost their lives across the country due to the flooding.
The Ministry of Tourism further asked hoteliers in distress not to hesitate to report emergencies through the National Emergency Disaster Helpline: 0800721571.
