CS Machogu issues New Directive on Reopening of Schools: The Ministry of Education on Friday directed schools severely affected by floods to remain closed until the situation is contained and Safe.
This directive comes days after the ministry of education extended the school reopening dates due to the heavy floods that are wreaking havoc.
The ministry of Education stated,”In the meantime, the management of these schools should come up with strategies to recover lost time when learning resumes.”
On the same note, All school heads and parents were urged to ensure the safety of the pupils and students is utmost even as schools resume on 6th of May.
Further, The government has directed all people sheltering in schools to seek alternative accommodation ahead of the anticipated reopening.
“Some of the people displaced from their homes due to the devastating effect of the rains have sought refuge in schools. Such schools may not be able to continue with the regular academic activities,” read part of a statement by the Ministry of Education.
Regional education officers were also directed to come up with measures and ensure learning goes on without disruptions.
Other recommended Measures by the ministry included resource sharing among neighbouring schools and the use of multi-grade and multi-shift models of providing education.
The statement read,”County Education Boards (CEBs) are directed to convene urgent meetings to assess the situation and submit comprehensive reports to the Cabinet Secretary by May 10th 2024.”
