Parliament committee saves Linturi’s job in fertiliser scandal: Seven out of 11 committee members investigating Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi’s involvement in the fake fertilizer scandal vote to save him from impeachment.
However, Ainabkoi Member of Parliament, Samuel Chepkong’a who is also a UDA supporter, abstained from voting.
The Naomi Waqo-led committee had retreated to write a report; if the allegations against him are supported he will be accorded an opportunity to defend himself before voting.
Waqo stated, “From here we embark on the report writing exercise as required under Article 152 (7) of the Constitution. We shall be retreating from today begin report writing. As you are aware, we are required to table our report to the House by Monday, 13th May 2024. It will therefore be a working weekend for all of us”,
“In this regard, allow me to now conclude by noting that we shall analyse each and every evidence that was submitted to this committee by all parties and make our findings in accordance with the requirements of Article 152(9) of the Constitution” Waqo added.
Pursuant to Article 152(10) of the Constitution, a resolution requiring the President to dismiss a Cabinet Secretary must be supported by approximately 175 members of the National Assembly
