Mombasa Governor Bans Sale & Distribution of Muguka: Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has completely banned the entry, distribution, sale and use of muguka and its products within the county.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, May 22, Nassir directed that all outlets, whether retail or wholesale selling Muguka in Mombasa County is with immediate effect prohibited.
He also denied the entry of motor vehicles transporting muguka in the county.
He stated,”Now, therefore I Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir, Governor of Mombasa, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and existing laws, do hereby order and direct that, there be a total prohibition on the entry, transportation, distribution, sale and use of muguka and its products within Mombasa County,”
“The figures that are there from the government agencies NACADA are confirming that muguka has caused widespread damage, especially to our younger generation. We’ve tried to be able to work out a way in which we can come up with regulations, in ways in which we can say let us see how we can coexist so that our children don’t get spoiled.”
He added: Those who were dealing with this have refused and for that reason, I have consulted legally and it is found to be in order. I’ve signed an executive order to ban the entry and sale of muguka in Mombasa.
