Londiani Police Station OCS shot dead, CJ Koome Issues a Statement on shooting of a magistrate at Makadara Law Courts: The National Police Service has expressed deep regret over the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred on June 13, 2024, at the Makadara Law Courts in Nairobi.
“Today, at about 1345 hrs, a Presiding Magistrate for Makadara Law Courts (name withheld) was shot by a suspect later identified as No. 235435 Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, the OCS Londiani Police Station. Swift response from Police Court Orderlies managed to neutralise the situation, resulting in the unfortunate demise of the officer,” Koome said.
However, two police constables and the magistrate sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Metropolitan Hospital in Buruburu.
The National Police Service has since deployed specialised teams, led by the DCI Homicide Unit, to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.
” While the Service is yet to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting, all our specialised teams led by the DCI Homicide Unit are on the ground conducting an in-depth investigation into the incident,” Koome said
Consequently, The Chief justice has stated that the Makadara Law Courts will remain closed until June 17 following the shooting incident.
CJ stated, “All matters at the Makadara Law Courts will be heard virtually and those requiring physical appearance mentioned at the Milimani Law Courts,”
“The Judiciary Police Unit in consultation with the office of the Inspector General will reinforce security in all court stations across the country and ensure that persons are not allowed to access court premises while armed with the exception of officers properly accredited to provide security at specified court sessions,” the CJ directed.
