Senior police officer shoots himself while issuing gun to colleague: A senior police officer attached at Kegonga Police Station in Migori has accidentally shot himself while issuing a pistol to his colleague within the station.

According to the police report, Corporal Caudence Nyangenya who is in charge of the Lines and armory, was tasked with issuing a Barreta pistol to James Mugo Kabachia, Kuria East Sub-County Police Commander.

However, as he was carrying out his normal safety precautions, he accidentally discharged one round of 9 milimetre from the pistol and injured himself on the right thigh.

The officer was rushed to Kegonga Sub County Hospital and later referred to Migori County Hospital for further treatment after his condition got worse.

He was however, pronounced dead due to excessive bleeding. His body is currently preserved at the same hospital morgue.
