Ministry of Education To Centralise All Education Data In New System: Following a meeting between Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu with stakeholders at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), the ministry is set to centralise all education data.
The stakeholder forum to discussed the plans to consolidate the storage and retrieval of web based system for all information regarding education in the country, dubbed Kenya Education Management System (KEMIS).
According to the education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, KEMIS will harmonise education data in the National Education Management System (NEMIS), Technical Vocational Education Management Information System (TVET-MIS) and Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS).
It will allow the tracking of all learners from Pre-primary, Primary, and Secondary, middle-level colleges as well as university education.
MoE Stated,”KEMIS is designed to streamline and centralize data at all levels of the national education system,”
”It will hold information from pre-primary, junior and senior schools, Middle level colleges and university institutions for purposes of planning and policy-making going forward,” read part of the Statement.
This comes after the Presidential Working Party on Educational Reforms in their recommendations saw it fit that KEMIS capture all learners from basic education institutions.
Where a learner is not registerable due to reasons which may include; lack of national identity card or being above 18 years old, the county director of education shall handle each case on its merit and where the reasons given are merited, the learner will be registered on KEMIS.
