Court issues Warrant of Arrest Against Mumias East MP Salasya
Court issues Warrant of Arrest Against Mumias East MP Salasya for allegedly failing to clear a debt owed to a Kakamega businessman.
Kakamega Small Claims court Adjudicator Caroline Cheruiyot issued the warrant after the MP allegedly failed to clear Sh563,000 which included Sh500,000 he is alleged to have borrowed from the businessman in 2022 and interest accrued during that period.
The Adjudicator directed that the MP should be arrested or pay the total amount plus expenses for execution of the warrant.
The MP requested the court in April to allow him to pay the outstanding amount in installments of Sh50,000 monthly on grounds that he was unable to repay the amount at once.
The court however declined his application arguing that Salasya had not made any payment since the decree was issued in January as a sign of commitment to pay.
The National Assembly then filed an application seeking to stop the businessman from attaching his car on grounds that it was still the property of Parliament since it was still registered in the names of the MP and Parliament.
