There was drama at Kingongo slums in Eldoret when police on a mission to arrest a suspected brewer of chang’aa were stoned and chased away.
A team who were on patrol within the Kingongo slums estate along the Sosiani river bank, were suddenly surrounded by a group of about 40 youths armed with stones and crude weapons.
During the confrontation, two officers sustained soft tissue injuries on both lower legs and were both treated at Huruma sub-county hospital and discharged in fair condition.
Police said 60 litres of chang’aa were seized, about 500 litres of Kangara were destroyed and brewing apparatus were recovered.
The main brewer who is alleged to have incited the youths is on the run but he is being sought, police said.

“A suspect implicated in a case of robbery with violence and rape is in custody following her arrest earlier today at Kiamanyeki area of Mwea East. The arrest followed a sting operation conducted by Kirinyaga Central detectives,” DCI stated in a statement.
“The officers had been deployed by the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer to pursue the runaway suspect named in an ongoing Criminal Case No. 278/33/2024 and Court File No. E381, who traced the suspect, to the village and moved in swiftly to effect the arrest,” it added.
