The tragic accident on the Embu- Nairobi highway has left two dead and many others nursing injuries.
One of the trucks was carrying timber, another truck was transporting maize, and the Tahmeed passenger bus was heading to Mombasa when the accident happened near the Sewage area in Embu Town
Reportedly, one of the lorries, enroute Nairobi, experienced brake failure and rammed into the second lorry. The lorry is said to have been standing still and was being inspected by Embu County enforcement officers at a roadblock.
Emergency teams from Kirimari Ward flooded the accident scene to rescue the feared casualties however, Rescue operations were blocked because the two lorries spilled their loads of firewood and maize sacks, proving difficult to access the trapped victims.
Police who were also at the scene were forced to use a breakdown truck to separate the wreckage where both lorry drivers were trapped in their cabins.
None of the passengers on the bus died, but some sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby county hospital.
The wreckage has since been towed to the Embu Police Station for inspection as investigations into the accident officially kick off.
